In the first slaughterhouse, the Food Agency inspectors found about 100 kg of veal without proven origin, and in the second - approximately 230 kg of beef, 10 kg of beef trimmings and four animal skins. All of this will be destroyed, and pre-trial proceedings will be initiated against the owners of the properties.

Illegal slaughterhouses in two private properties in the village of Chiflik, Kardzhali Municipality, were discovered during a joint operation by the Regional Directorate for Food Safety (RDFS) - Kardzhali and the Economic Police. The BFSA reported this on its website.

During the inspection, 80 ear tags from large ruminants were found. This means that tons of meat of unclear origin and without veterinary and sanitary control have left the two slaughterhouses. The origin and owners of the animals will be checked using the tag numbers.

The operation in Kardzhali took place less than two weeks after illegal slaughterhouses in Ihtiman, which had been operating for years, were discovered.

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) reminds that the storage and trade of meat without proven origin and without official veterinary control poses a risk to consumer health and is subject to strict sanctions.
